Attention to the epidemic is being generated at global levels while people continue to die locally. While the international community provides a global platform to raise awareness, develop political will and mobilizes resources, this global epidemic has devastating effects on nations and regions. There are some universal risk factors like excessive speed and driving under the influence and there are risk factors and barriers to prevention unique to each country .Significant gaps in data collection, infrastructure, vehicle equipment standardization, enforcement, and emergency trauma and rehabilitative care contribute to the rapidly worsening situation in most transitional and developing nations. The absence of high-level policy and budgetary commitment in many nations makes it nearly impossible to mount a coordinated plan of action. Regional groups, often with support from the international community, are taking ownership to raise awareness, engage national and regional commitment, and put road safety on planning and funding agendas.
