During the 2nd UN Stakeholders Forum on Global Road Safety in April of 2007, delegates expressed very strong support for a UN Ministerial Conference on Road Safety.  High-level political commitment and multi-sectoral participation were identified as key components to effective national and regional fatality reduction strategies.  Recognizing that the cabinet structure of national governments is often unique and may vary between nations, the relevant ministries include but are not limited to Interior, Transport, Health, Infrastructure, Law Enforcement, Finance, and Education.  Preliminary objectives for the Ministerial Conference are to establish new benchmarks for best practices in road traffic injury prevention, encourage regional casualty reduction targets and provide a new framework for international co-operation on global road safety.   The Conference will be held in Moscow in November 2009.
